About This Spot

Pulling up to El Vaquero Taco Truck, you’re met with a comforting hum of familiar street smells and a gentle bustle that feels perfectly in tune with Oakdale’s everyday rhythm. Tucked beside a gas station yet softening the scene with a casual, inviting vibe, it’s the kind of place where time slows just enough to savor the moment — the quick exchanges, the sizzle of fresh ingredients hitting the grill, the comforting warmth shared between strangers waiting patiently in line.

The pace here is unhurried but efficient, a smooth flow that keeps energy light and friendly even when lunchtime crowds gather. There’s a subtle attentiveness in how the team works the window, quick smiles and genuine "thank yous" making it a spot that feels as welcoming as it does familiar, even if it’s your first visit. Seating nearby offers a modest refuge to enjoy the food apart from the hum of passing cars, letting the flavors take center stage.

And the food itself feels deeply rooted in tradition, made fresh with care and a knowing hand. It’s the kind of experience where the richness of a beefy birria taco or the crisp kindness of a chicken quesadilla reveals itself slowly with each bite. You might find a California burrito packed with just the right balance of smooth avocado and hearty fries, or delicate street tacos that speak in simple but vivid notes. Even amidst a quick lunch rush, the freshness never skips a beat, carrying the essence of a neighborhood kitchen that respects its roots and its guests equally.

Eating at El Vaquero feels less like grabbing a meal on the go and more like sharing a small, honest moment — the kind that stays with you long after you’ve tossed the napkin. It’s where good food quietly invites you to relax, connect, and discover something small but meaningful in the heart of Oakdale’s everyday.

I love Mexican food and this is authentic. To my surprise they even had papusas.

The food is amazing. I like that everything tastes really fresh, instead of that old food taste you get at other trucks. It is also really clean inside of the truck, so I feel safe eating there. Highly recommend it.

Had 2 reccomendactions on The Fish Tacos . $3.50 each, served like street Tacos, tasty. Will go back to try Quesadila Briasas, with the beef broth, dipping sauce.

This has the best tacos and burrito we have ever had. We got the el pastor burrito (California style), shrimp tacos, steak taco, and chicken quesadilla. All incredibly flavorful. Also very affordable. Atmosphere isn’t bad (nice spot to sit outside separate from the gas station). The only problem with this place is that it is so far from where we live (which is no fault of El Vaquero).

It was my first time in Oakdale, and this spot was a great choice for lunch. Even with a rush going on, the line moved quickly. The staff were nice and thanked us when we finished our meals. The food was delicious and was ready really quickly.

After hearing Mr. Peabody and his boy Sherman rave about the chicken tacos from the El Vaqueros Taco Truck, I just had to go! Peabody told me he set his Wayback Machine to capture just that moment, and then again to when I was in the vicinity so he could tell me too. They were right, the tacos de pollo were Amazing! 5 stars all day long.
